We’re helping Southern Maryland high school students learn important financial skills

Last year, we partnered with EverFi to bring interactive financial literacy education to high school students throughout Southern Maryland.

This year’s incoming freshman class is required to received some type of financial education, and while educators are still waiting for the final word on state regulations related to this requirement, we are not waiting to get started!

The EverFi program is a public-private partnership that allows Community Bank of Tri-County to provide award-winning and engaging technology to the students of Southern Maryland at absolutely no cost to the schools. Students enrolled in the program become knowledgeable in 600 financial education topics. Upon successful completion of the 10-unit course, students earn a Certification in Financial Literacy.

The web-based EverFi program uses the latest in new-media technologies, including adaptive-pathing, 3-D gaming, social networking, online animations, video, and messaging tools to present complex learning modules and bring abstract financial concepts to life. It covers topics including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, taxes, stocks, savings, 401(k)s and other critical concepts. The program integrates into existing curriculum and also fulfills the State’s standards and requirements for financial literacy education.

We are proud to help promote financial literacy at high schools throughout Southern Maryland. We feel that helping to educate our children about the importance of making wise financial decisions, now and in the future, is just one more way the Bank can give back to our community.
