November 26 is the second annual Small Business Saturday, a nationwide campaign that encourages shoppers to support local businesses as they search for holiday gifts and entertaining needs.
Unlike Black Friday with its doorbuster sales, or Cyber Monday when shoppers stay glued to their laptops, Small Business Saturday promotes boosting business at one-of-a-kind hometown restaurants, markets, and specialty shops.
At this time of year, traffic at shopping malls and “big-box” stores can reach gridlock proportions. Our local independent retailers in Southern Maryland offer a convenient, friendly, stress-free alternative. Many will be offering special deals to entice buyers to “shop small,” not only on Small Business Saturday but throughout the holiday season and beyond.
According to the Small Business Administration, small merchants are “America’s most powerful engine of opportunity and economic growth.” And without a doubt, they are the backbone of any community, including the communities in Southern Maryland.
America counts on its small businesses, and small businesses count on us. On November 26, shop small and make a huge difference!
